History

1600s - Wassololo, the Native American village that once stood where Laingsburg is now located, was home to the Chippewa tribe. The fate of this village remains shrouded in mystery.

1836 - Laingsburg was established and christened in honor of Dr. Peter Laing, a prominent figure among the early settlers and entrepreneurs in the area. Dr. Laing erected a tavern at the intersection of Fenner Road and Grand River Road, setting the stage for the subsequent proliferation of taverns and hotels.

1841 - The inception of a post office marked the town's designation as Nebraska.

1860 - Laingsburg regained its original name with the arrival of the Jackson, Lansing & Northern Railroad (later Michigan Central) in the vicinity.

1871 - The formal incorporation of Laingsburg as a village took place.

1951 - Laingsburg achieved city status upon its official incorporation.
