ABOUT POTTERVILLE

Potterville, founded by Linus Potter who arrived with his family in November 1844, derives its name from this pioneer. Linus served as supervisor of Benton Township in 1846. Linus and his wife Diantha journeyed from Cayuga County, New York, in 1830, traveling via the Erie Canal to Buffalo, then by Lake Erie steamboat to Detroit. From Detroit, they trekked on foot to Plymouth, Michigan, a distance of approximately thirty miles, before continuing their journey to Saline. Accompanied by their three-year-old son, George, and infant daughter, Louisa, the Potters made the arduous journey together.

Potterville has undergone numerous transformations over the years, yet it remains deeply rooted in its sense of family, unwavering community commitment, and the pride that encapsulates the essence of our city.
